- Short-term training for Tour Guides
In June 2005, a short term training course on Tour Guide Skills was held by the Tibetan Traditional Culture Conservation Association of Sichuan Tibetan School in Kangding, financed by the Winrock International STC Project. Fifty students who understand both Tibetan and Chinese well were selected to attend this training. Through this training, the following two objectives were achieved: trainees learned valuable vocational skills and basic knowledge necessary to the profession of tour guides; at the same time, they gained an increased understanding of the value of their Tibetan traditional culture heritage and the need for it to be preserved and developed.
- Tibetan Food Cooking Training
In August 2005, a Tibetan Food Cooking Training was organized by the Winrock International STC Project for local communities or individuals in Tagong. A Tibetan cook named Tenzin was invited to run the training. More than 66 persons from 4 nearby villages (Lhagang, Dorakarmo, Goroma and Ngalongma ) and from the local nunnery and monastery attended this training. The results are that trainees who run restaurants or services for tourists have improved their cooking skills, service ethic and sense of entrepreneurship, all of which helps them develop their businesses, personal opportunities and approaches to income generation. The feedback from trainees shows that they have high hopes of attending a similar, longer session or other further training in the future. In addition, Winrock STC is collecting cookbooks and materials for local residents.
- Training in Motorcycle Maintenance and Repair
In order to meet local demand, provide transport and BDS (Business Development Services) to local communities or individuals for income generation, the Winrock International STC Project signed an agreement with Sichuan University Vocational Skills Training Center for Motorcycle Maintenance on October 12th, 2005. Together they organized a training for herdsmen from Tagong. Twenty herdsmen who are interested in this training were selected from communities in Tagong. This training started in October 17th and will run until December 17th, 2005. The Winrock International STC Project covers all costs for tuition, teaching materials, and board and lodging of trainees.
