Introduction
|
The core component of the project provides essential support to the grants program through activities implemented directly by Winrock STC staff. Through the core component, STC staff and consultants can support grantees through training and capacity-building, and jump-start activities when urgent needs dictate a more rapid response than the grants program can provide.

Winrock staff work with local grantees through organizational capacity-building, institutional mentoring and Monitoring and Evaluation regimes, enabling the best development practices to be spread through adaptive models and study tours, and incorporated into planning to form the basis of future grant cycles. Core activities help to ensure that activities funded through the grants component are targeted to locally articulated priorities in the most constructive manner. The two project components, Core and Grant, are designed to work in tandem with each other and so achieve greater impact through their synergy.
Core activities include: public-awareness training, study tours, building market linkages for products and services, participatory planning exercises, baseline surveys, training needs assessments, value chain analysis, and cultural and environmental impact studies. Government agencies are welcome to participate.
