Winrock International, a private, non-sectarian, non profit organization registered in the USA, was founded in 1973 by the former governor of Arkansas, Winthrop Rockefeller, descendent of the renown philanthropist John D. Rockefeller. Winrock works with people around the world to increase economic opportunity, sustain natural resources, and protect the environment. By linking local individuals and communities with new ideas and technology, Winrock is increasing long-term productivity, equity, and responsible resource management to benefit the poor and disadvantaged of the world.

Winrock has US offices in Arkansas and Virginia, with international field offices in 65 countries such as Brazil, the Philippines, China, and other countries in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. Winrock is currently implementing its mission through more than 130 projects worldwide and manages approximately $50 million in funds per year. This extensive project portfolio and more than 30 years of international project implementation allows Winrock to replicate successes and translate lessons learned into new approaches and methodologies for more effective project implementation.

Winrock in China

Winrock International was among the first development organizations to work in China after ¡°Open-door¡± reforms began. In 1982 it opened a Beijing Office on the campus of the Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences ( CAAS), which is a key partner in program activities. Since then, Winrock has carried out numerous projects with more than $ 10 million in funding focused on rural development and capacity building in the fields of agriculture, nature resources management, and renewable energy, etc..

In Recent years, the following projects have been completed by Winrock in China: NGO Capacity Building Program (2002-2005), Participatory Upland Development Support in SW China (2000-2006), Training for the Advancement of Chinese Women¡¯s Leadership (2003-2006) and technical supported CI-China Yunnan reforestation project, etc..
